What Is A Preorder?

Because vinyl production often involves lengthy turnaround times and, in many cases, a limited number of copies, many records are offered as ‘Pre-Orders.’ This allows you to guarantee your copy ahead of its official release, which could be weeks or even months away.

If your order includes any pre-order items and you’ve chosen and paid for shipping at checkout, any in-stock records will be set aside and shipped together once all items become available.

Products that are on preorder will be clearly marked as such, and the expected release date will be detailed on the product page, there will also be warnings on the order and checkout pages to state that items are preorder only at present.

If you’d prefer to receive the in-stock records sooner, please place a separate order for these.

Due to the highly intricate and specialised nature of vinyl manufacture, these preorder dates can sometimes be changed – in these instances we will try our best to keep you updated, but unfortunately, we have no control
over any delays that may occur due to manufacturing issues.

You Don’t Stock A New Release I Would Like To Buy; Can You Order It For Me?

Possibly - we stock a limited range of hand-picked releases BUT, if there’s something you would like us to order in for you, get in touch with us and we’ll see what we can do - whether we can order it depends on availability at the distributor or label -and whether we have an account with them, but we’re happy to try.

Do You Sell Used Or Second Hand Vinyl Records?

No, unless otherwise stated, all records sold on 7th Storey Projects are brand new, and unplayed, sourced as mint-condition, new stock from various trusted distributors and labels.

Please note that we do not visually inspect, or play-test records before they are sent out.

Do You Sell Or Provide Digital Copies Of The Releases You Sell?

No, unless otherwise stated on the product page.

The Record I Bought Is Pressed On Coloured (i.e. Not Black) Vinyl, Will It Sound OK?

Well, in practise, it's a bit hit-and-miss, and is always a bit of a risk, but to summarise:

Coloured vinyl is manufactured using different material compared to solid black vinyl. Therefore the amount of surface noise can vary. This applies in particular to a possible higher noise level and isolated static sound (clicks) in the lead-in and lead-out grooves, in the track cross-over/ ID grooves and at any quiet points of the recording.

The colours gold and silver are particularly prone to interference as they can contain metallic particles.

Transparent and particularly light colours can also complicate the accompanying quality control process, as pressing defects are difficult or even impossible to see, even under a microscope.

Please also note the actual colour or mix of the vinyl you receive may differ slightly from what is displayed on your screen, as colours can appear differently in the flesh compared to digital representations.

Generally, coloured vinyl will sound fine, and in most instances sound every bit as good as a standard PVC black record, with perhaps no more than a tiny bit higher floor noise in quiet parts - but, also speaking generally, they are more prone to raised noise floors and crackle than black vinyl.

Unfortunately, we are not able to offer refunds for coloured vinyl that is affected by raised surface noise that is considered within range by the pressing plant - we will take a case-by-case view on anything that is possibly outside this range.
